Kadhi Pakoda — homemade Indian dish from The Curry Creations, New Jersey

What is Kadhi Pakoda?

Kadhi pakoda is one of the great comfort dishes of Punjabi home cooking. A smooth, tangy curry made from yogurt and besan (gram flour) is simmered slowly, then gram-flour fritters (pakoras) are added so they soak up the kadhi and turn soft and flavourful.

The finishing touch is a tempering of mustard seeds and dried red chillies poured over the top. It's warming and gently sour, and in many Punjabi homes it's a weekend favourite served with steamed rice.

It's also one of the most-ordered dishes at The Curry Creations.

Cooked in 100% olive oil

Never vegetable oil or palm oil. No preservatives, no artificial colours.

Best served with

Steamed basmati rice. Kadhi chawal is the classic pairing, and plain basmati rice is available as a side with your weekly order. It also goes well with roti and a dry vegetable dish such as aloo or gobhi.

Allergens

No added nuts or sesame. Our kitchen also handles nuts, sesame and dairy, so please message us about any allergy before ordering.

Storage & heating

Keeps up to 5 days in the fridge or up to 5 weeks frozen on the day of delivery. Containers are not microwave-safe — heat in a pan or on a plate.

How we cook our Kadhi Pakoda

We make the kadhi from yogurt and besan and cook it slowly so it turns smooth and creamy, never grainy. The pakoras go into the kadhi to soak, and the tempering of mustard seeds and dried red chillies goes in last.

Everything is cooked in 100% olive oil with no preservatives, packed hot into a 16 oz biodegradable container, and delivered the same weekend it's cooked.

Kadhi Pakoda — FAQs

Is kadhi pakoda vegetarian? +
Yes. It's fully vegetarian, made with yogurt, besan (gram flour) and spices. Because it's yogurt-based it contains dairy, so it isn't vegan.
What does kadhi taste like? +
Gently tangy from the yogurt, smooth and slightly thick from the gram flour, and warm from the spices and the tempering. The pakoras add a soft, savoury bite that soaks up the kadhi.
How long does it keep, and how do I reheat it? +
It keeps up to 5 days in the fridge, or up to 5 weeks if you freeze it on the day of delivery. Heat it gently in a pan, stirring, and add a splash of water if it has thickened. Our containers aren't microwave-safe, so transfer it before heating.
