Rajma Masala — homemade Indian dish from The Curry Creations, New Jersey

What is Rajma Masala?

Rajma masala is red kidney beans slow-cooked in a thick, aromatic tomato and onion gravy with warming spices. It's one of the best-loved comfort foods of North India. Served with rice as rajma chawal, it's the meal many people from Punjab and Delhi remember from Sunday lunches at home.

The beans are cooked until soft and creamy, and the gravy is simmered long enough for them to take on its flavour. It's hearty, filling and naturally rich in plant protein and fibre.

Cooked in 100% olive oil

Never vegetable oil or palm oil. No preservatives, no artificial colours.

Best served with

Steamed basmati rice. Rajma chawal is the classic, and plain basmati rice is available as a side with your weekly order. It's also good with roti and a simple vegetable dish.

Allergens

No added nuts or sesame. Our kitchen also handles nuts, sesame and dairy, so please message us about any allergy before ordering.

Storage & heating

Keeps up to 5 days in the fridge or up to 5 weeks frozen on the day of delivery. Containers are not microwave-safe — heat in a pan or on a plate.

How we cook our Rajma Masala

We slow-cook the kidney beans until they're properly soft, then simmer them in an onion and tomato gravy with whole and ground spices so the flavour goes all the way through.

Like every dish from our kitchen, it's cooked in 100% olive oil with no preservatives, packed hot into a 16 oz biodegradable container, and delivered the same weekend it's cooked.

Rajma Masala — FAQs

Is rajma masala vegan? +
Yes. Our rajma masala is vegan: kidney beans, onions, tomatoes and spices cooked in olive oil, with no butter, cream or other dairy.
Is rajma a good source of protein? +
Yes. Kidney beans are naturally rich in plant protein and fibre, which is why rajma with rice is such a filling, satisfying vegetarian meal.
How long does it keep, and how do I reheat it? +
It keeps up to 5 days in the fridge, or up to 5 weeks if you freeze it on the day of delivery, and many people find it tastes even better the next day. Heat it in a pan with a splash of water. Our containers aren't microwave-safe, so transfer it before heating.
