Methi Aloo — homemade Indian dish from The Curry Creations, New Jersey

What is Methi Aloo?

Methi aloo is a simple, everyday North Indian sabzi of potatoes cooked with fresh methi (fenugreek) leaves, cumin and a few warming spices. It's the kind of dry vegetable dish that turns up on home dinner tables across North India, especially in the cooler months when fresh methi is at its best.

The slight bitterness of the fenugreek balances the soft, earthy potatoes, so the dish tastes far more interesting than its short ingredient list suggests. It's one of the most-ordered vegetarian dishes at The Curry Creations.

Cooked in 100% olive oil

Never vegetable oil or palm oil. No preservatives, no artificial colours.

Best served with

Warm roti, available as a side with your weekly order. It also works as a dry side next to a dal such as langar wali dal or rajma.

Allergens

No added nuts or sesame. Our kitchen also handles nuts, sesame and dairy, so please message us about any allergy before ordering.

Storage & heating

Keeps up to 5 days in the fridge or up to 5 weeks frozen on the day of delivery. Containers are not microwave-safe — heat in a pan or on a plate.

How we cook our Methi Aloo

We stir-fry the potatoes with cumin and spices, then fold in fresh fenugreek leaves so they wilt into the potatoes and keep their flavour.

Like every dish from our kitchen, it's cooked in 100% olive oil with no preservatives, packed hot into a 16 oz biodegradable container, and delivered the same weekend it's cooked.

Methi Aloo — FAQs

Is methi aloo vegan? +
Yes. Our methi aloo is vegan: potatoes, fresh fenugreek leaves and spices cooked in olive oil, with no butter, cream or other dairy.
Does methi taste bitter? +
Fresh methi has a gentle bitterness, but cooked with potatoes and cumin it mellows into a savoury, slightly earthy flavour. Most people who think they don't like methi enjoy it this way.
How long does it keep, and how do I reheat it? +
It keeps up to 5 days in the fridge, or up to 5 weeks if you freeze it on the day of delivery. Our containers aren't microwave-safe, so heat it in a pan or on a plate until piping hot.
