Rongi (Black Eyed Pea) — homemade Indian dish from The Curry Creations, New Jersey

What is Rongi?

Rongi is the Punjabi name for black-eyed peas (also called lobia), and this curry cooks them slowly in a gravy of onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic and Indian spices. It's lightly spiced and hearty, the kind of everyday dish that's quietly loved in Punjabi homes.

Like rajma, it's naturally rich in plant protein and fibre, and it's one of the most-ordered vegetarian dishes at The Curry Creations.

Cooked in 100% olive oil

Never vegetable oil or palm oil. No preservatives, no artificial colours.

Best served with

Steamed basmati rice or warm roti, both available as sides with your weekly order.

Allergens

No added nuts or sesame. Our kitchen also handles nuts, sesame and dairy, so please message us about any allergy before ordering.

Storage & heating

Keeps up to 5 days in the fridge or up to 5 weeks frozen on the day of delivery. Containers are not microwave-safe — heat in a pan or on a plate.

How we cook our Rongi

We simmer the black-eyed peas until tender in a gravy of onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic and spices, so they soak up the flavour.

Like every dish from our kitchen, it's cooked in 100% olive oil with no preservatives, packed hot into a 16 oz biodegradable container, and delivered the same weekend it's cooked.
